Coronary CTA

OSF Little Company of Mary now offers advance computerized tomography angiography (CTA) of the coronary arteries. This test utilizes a state-of-the-art 40-slice Philips Brilliance CT Scanner to provide detailed images of the coronary arteries and surrounding structures, including the myocardium, pericardium and aortic root.

Traditional coronary angiography displays only the vessel lumen and the degree of luminal narrowing, but CTA allows delineation of calcified and non-calcified lesions within the wall of the coronary that could cause narrowing of the arterial lumen.

CTA is less invasive than traditional angiography, and patients who are most likely to benefit are those who have atypical symptoms and are of low to intermediate risk for coronary artery disease. Patients are monitored by our staff of skilled professionals throughout the procedure. We strive to provide timely reporting of test results and will provide referring physicians with a CD or paper report of representative images for review and patient education.

Calcium Scoring

OSF Little Company of Mary currently offers calcium scoring as a routine part of CT Angiography or as a stand-alone, non-contrast study. This tool can detect coronary atherosclerosis at an early stage and is useful in risk stratification.

At OSF Little Company of Mary, patients have access to an advanced 40-slice Philips Brilliance CT scanner. This machine allows EKG gated, sub-second imaging of the heart for clear, crisp images of the cardiac structures. This test can be performed in seconds and is well-tolerated by all patients.

The presence of calcium in the coronary arteries correlates with the presence of coronary artery disease and can aid in determining a need for additional testing or treatment.

To schedule a coronary CTA, Calcium Scoring or Transesophageal echocardiogram, you may call Central Scheduling directly at (708) 499-8550.

Angioplasty ScreeningsAngioplasty

OSF Little Company of Mary is able to perform emergent and elective angioplasties for patients who suffer from blocked arteries as part of a registry program that started with Johns Hopkins Atlantic Cardiovascular Patient Outcomes Research Team (C-PORT) in 2000.

OSF Little Company of Mary became the first Illinois hospital to participate in this registry and have successfully performed numerous angioplasties in emergencies where time is critical.

The Hospital has a partnership with the American College of Cardiology Foundation's National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) a quality improvement program that will help improve hospital processes to further enhance this goal.

Today, the NCDR is the most comprehensive, outcomes-based quality improvement program in the United States so patients can receive complete, quality and advanced cardiac care here at OSF Little Company of Mary.

Electrophysiology

The electrophysiology (EP) lab is a state-of-the-art facility staffed by a team of cardiologists, electrophysiologists and advanced practice providers.

The EP lab performs tests and procedures to assess the heart's electrical system, diagnose irregular heart rhythms, guide the placement of devices like pacemakers or defibrillators and more. In addition, radiofrequency ablations are performed to correct abnormal electrical pathways in the heart. The EP lab can greatly improve the lives of patients with cardiac rhythm disorders through advanced diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
