Why Choose Us?

Spacious and Comfortable Setting

Emergencies can feel overwhelming, but our ER is designed to give you peace of mind. We feature a large and welcoming reception and waiting area, private triage section and treatment rooms and, thanks to grants from our Danville community, walls adorned with creative, kid-friendly murals.

Rapid-Response Stroke Care

When a stroke strikes, blood supply to the brain is cut off—making every second a matter of life or death. Rest assured, OSF Sacred Heart is ready to respond; in fact, we’ve been designated as an Emergent Stroke Ready Hospital by the Illinois Department of Public Health for our ability to rapidly diagnose, treat and transport stroke patients to specialized inpatient and rehabilitative care as needed.

And, through our state-of-the-art Telestroke technology, we offer patients and families a direct link to the renowned Neuroscience Institute, where vascular neurology specialists ensure the best possible outcome.

Express Care for Less Serious Conditions

If you’re dealing with a minor illness and injury, we put you on the fast track to treatment with Express Care, right in our ER.

Upon arrival, you’ll be evaluated and treated by a board-certified emergency physician and nurse.

Clinical Decision Unit (CDU)

To provide the very best quality in patient care, stay current with medical innovation, and provide the best patient outcomes, OSF Sacred Heart has created a Clinical Decision Unit (CDU).

CDU

The establishment of such a unit in the hospital setting has become more prevalent throughout the country.  Over 30 percent of health care systems nationwide have either instituted or are in the planning stages for such a unit.

Clinical Decision Unit

Emergency Department professionals have advocated for the building of a unit designed to provide an alternative to discharge or inpatient admission for patients who may benefit from an extended observation period, or who may require additional monitoring, diagnostic evaluation and/or treatment.

Benefits

  • Enhanced quality and safety of patient care
  • Improved patient experience
  • Reduced length of stay
  • More efficient patient flow
  • Reduced patient readmissions
  • Prevention of unnecessary hospital admissions
  • Reduction in patients’ health care costs
  • Reduction in negative outcomes associated with premature discharge from the Emergency Department
  • Improved staff satisfaction
  • Increased cost effectiveness

While in the CDU, patients can have loved ones close at hand, and can trust in the constant monitoring and dedicated nursing staff.

The CDU is a newly-constructed unit located on the Ground Floor of the Medical Center, directly across form our three-bank elevators, close to the Imaging Department, and north of the Emergency Department.
