Laboratory

Glucose. Enzymes. Glycohemoglobin. Thyroid Antibodies. A little drop of blood can tell a lot about you. Blood tests, sometimes called blood panels, are one of a provider's most basic tools.

Doctors once diagnosed patients through looking and listening. Today, we have a wide range of testing options to choose from, with blood tests being among the most basic and most valuable.

Blood tests allow a doctor to see a detailed analysis of any disease markers, the nutrients and waste products in your blood as well as how various organs are functioning.

It can, however, help you to learn more about your body and detect potential problems in early stages when treatment or changes in personal habits can be most effective.

Accreditation

The OSF Saint Luke laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists.

Our laboratory is able to provide any and all lab tests that a provider might request to help diagnose a patient’s condition or testing that allows for preventative health measures.

Being a part of the OSF family allows for cooperation among all laboratories within our multiple hospital system so that all lab testing can be provided in a timely and consistent manner.

Preparing for your lab visit

Many lab tests require the patient to be fasting. If you are scheduled for morning tests, that means no food or drink after the evening meal. 12-14 hours of fasting is recommended for most tests.

Any questions on which tests require fasting can be directed to the laboratory staff at (309) 852-7810.

When you arrive for lab tests please check in at the registration desk and present any insurance information. Our team will then notify lab staff that a patient is waiting.

This entire process should take 10-20 minutes.

Receiving your test results

Lab test results are sent to the provider who requested them.

Most tests are performed the same day as the sample collection; some are sent out to our reference lab and may take three to five days or longer.

The lab staff member collecting the samples will let you know how soon your provider will receive the results.

Once your provider has reviewed the results, you will be able to access them at any time through OSF MyChart.
