Residency Activities

Patient-focused activities

  • Admission histories
  • Adverse drug event reporting and investigation of medication error reports
  • Cardiac arrest response
  • Daily rounds with the healthcare team
  • Discharge counseling
  • Drug information
  • Medication education
  • Patient monitoring and documentation
  • Pharmacy consults (pharmacokinetics, warfarin, etc.)
  • Precepting Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) students
  • Stroke alert response

Staffing

  • Longitudinal experience for the entirety of the residency year
  • Every third weekend
  • One major holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s)
  • Duty Hours: follows American Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ (ASHP) Duty-Hour Requirements for Pharmacy Residencies

Projects

Completion of one major research project that is presented at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition and a regional pharmacy resident conference.

Other activities

  • One hour presentation at Grand Rounds
  • Participation in hospital committees including Pharmacy and Therapeutics
  • Case presentations, in-services, journal clubs, medication use evaluations
  • Teaching certificate
